Two men have been arrested in connection with the death of 50-year-old Isabel Lucas Velasco, a Coalinga resident whose disappearance last month led to an intensive, multi-county search.

According to authorities, Velasco was reported missing on September 13 after she failed to return home from a jobsite in Arroyo Grande the previous day. Her case drew attention across Fresno and San Luis Obispo counties as family members and law enforcement worked together to locate her.

Body Discovered in Rural Fresno County

On Saturday, joint search teams from Fresno County and San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Offices discovered a body along Highway 198 west of Coalinga. Investigators believe the remains are those of Velasco.
The San Luis Obispo County Coroner’s Office is conducting formal identification and an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Brothers Arrested in Connection to the Case

Detectives have arrested Alejandro Soriano Ortiz, 45, of Coalinga, on murder and arson charges, alleging that he was involved in both Velasco’s death and the burning of her vehicle.
His brother, Celestino Soriano Ortiz, 40, of Santa Maria, was taken into custody as an accessory to murder and for alleged involvement in the arson.

Authorities confirmed that Alejandro Soriano Ortiz was Velasco’s former boyfriend. Both men remain in custody as the investigation continues.

    Ongoing Investigation

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office says the case remains active.
Anyone with information about Isabel Lucas Velasco’s disappearance or death is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Detective Division at (805) 781-4500.
